Two Tuesdays Down

Okay, today was quite busy, with all of my breaks being used to plan my next lessons. Well, actually I used a portion of my lunch break was used for a much needed nap. My day today? I went running with Nancy on our usual trail and then I had to rearrange my morning lesson because I decided I needed more time to plan it, so I did my second class first and my first class second. I'm getting a lot better at being flexible in my teaching. So that is a super positive about this teaching experience, is that it's teaching me to be more relaxed and flexible in my teaching.

I feel like I had a good story to share about class, but I am drawing a blank right now. Oh, funny thing, today I taught a subject/predicate lesson to the preschoolers, which is a lesson I had to teach the the third graders last semester. I obviously toned it down and didn't say that a sentence has a subject and a predicate, I told them that a sentence had a who and a what, but I think that the preschoolers understood better. I'm trying to figure out if I taught it better this time or if the preschoolers pick up on things faster, and my conclusion is that it's a little bit of both. While I was teaching the 4 and 5 year olds subject/predicate, I was just practicing dances with the 3 year olds. Good news, all of them were participating, bad news, all of them were participating and so it was so crazy. It's not like the dances are super intensive or anything, but it's a group of 20+ 3 year olds that I'm trying to teach it to. Luckily Josh already introduced the songs and dances to them so it's easier, but it's still not all that easy.

We had a pretty good lunch today, noodles with bamboo, tofu, oh yeah, and the new thing was chicken nuggets. Not that I'm new to chicken nuggets, but it's the first time I've had Taiwan chicken nuggets (they taste pretty much the same, so don't get too excited).

And then, like I said, lunch was used for preparation and napping, no exploring today :o(

After school I had one tutoring group and then Nancy and I went out for dinner. We had decided that since Nancy was done done at 6:30 (same as me) and didn't have to get back for anything, that we would just ride our bikes around and look for some place that looked good that neither of us had had before. We ended up going to a small shop that had duck. In the window, there was a whole duck, head and all, hanging and when we went up to order, we picked three side dishes (I got tofu, vegetables, and sweet potato fries-I thought I was being more adventurous with the fry order because that's not what they looked like). And then, the lady took a duck leg (I'm guessing), put it on a block of wood, took a meat cleaver, chopped it into four pieces, and then moved it onto my plate. Anyone who is a germ-a-phobe should NOT come here. There's absolutely no health code and everyone just sticks their hands all over what they're serving you. I just try not to think about it too hard, or look away so I can pretend that the people didn't just man-handle my food. So, I'd had duck before in Hawaii, but Nancy hadn't and that's the main reason we went there, but it was good and we both enjoyed it. Plus, it was a new experience eating it off the bone, and seeing a whole one right there, that's not something we got at the luau in Hawaii.

After dinner we rode around a little bit more and then just came home and we've been talking and listening to music ever since. I don't know how many times I told her that we needed to stop because I had to write my blog and we both needed to go to bed. But, then one or the other or both of us would come up with another story or another song to share. I think that I'm going to be running on less and less sleep as time goes by, because Nancy and I enjoy each other's company too much. We get a long too well, maybe I should start hating her, and then I could get more sleep. But, then again, maybe not, there are plenty of people in the world that I don't get along with, I don't need to add any to the list.

Truly, when eating out in Asia, you have to trust your immune system, but a hepatitis vaccination doesn't hurt either.

You did get a hepatitis vaccine... didn't you?
