It was a rather blustery day

Today I got up and went running with Nancy and Kaylene. Yeah for there being more people to socialize with! We went to the regular spot, and we came back, picked up Luke and went to the morning market to pick up some breakfast. I got an egg crepe thing. It was okay by itself, but the sauce that came with it made it good. I also decided to try rice milk this morning. It was brown with dark specks in it. It wasn't terrible, but not all that fantastic either. So, just like the soy milk, it's not worth the effort of getting used to it if I have to pay, so I'll stick with water.

Today was my first day teaching. We do have to do lesson plans, but they're no where near as exhaustive as I had to do last semester for my practicum experience (where I was in the classroom for one month, and only taught 1-2 lessons a day). Yesterday I came up with lesson plans for the whole week that I had to turn into Yuling by this morning (she translates them and gives them to the parents so the parents know what their students are learning). But, I just have to write down the name of the book or activity or topic that I'm teaching for that lesson. So the lesson plan isn't that bad, but the lesson planning was a little hard. I have absolutely nothing to go off of.

So, this is how it goes. I come up with a 20 minutes lesson in the morning that has to be modified for 3, 4, and 5 year olds. After I teach those three lessons (20 minutes for each of the three ages), then I have a 40 minute break. Then I have a 30 minute lesson, again, modified for each time I teach a different age group. Then I eat lunch with the kids (today it was rice and tofu and cabbage and green beans, so nothing out of the ordinary- except that the seeds in the green beans were purple, that was cool). After lunch, we have about a two hour break (depending on how long lunch takes, it could be more or less). Today I spent my whole break cutting out ovals for my afternoon lesson. So, at three o'clock, I'm back down teaching a 45 minute lesson to two groups of mixed ages. And then, after teaching, I have taken over Josh's tutoring too, so I taught a group of 5 kids from 5-6:30.

So it's been a long day. But I think that it went well, and I'm not too exhausted. I just hope that I can keep the stamina to last three months.

After tutoring was over, the four of us (Nancy, Kaylene, Luke, and I) rode to the night market. I wanted to try the sushi. I'm not a big fan, but I figured that if there was a time to get sushi, it would be when I'm in Asia, right? Unfortunately, the sushi cart I wanted to go to (because it has more options and you can choose which ones to put on your tray, it's not ready chosen) was closed for some reason. So then, I didn't know what I wanted and had just wandered around with Kaylene and Luke (who didn't know what they wanted either). Unfortunately Nancy had to rush back to meet a kid that she tutors, and so she couldn't help us know what was safe and what was more iffy (by iffy I mean disgusting). So, I just went for the safest bet, I bought dumplings. The dumplings came with a bag of soy sauce, and I had had it on the other dumplings on Saturday, so I put it on mine tonight, but I apparently put way too much because on Saturday I hadn't realized that it was hot, but tonight my eyes watered a little bit while I was eating the dumplings. Man I'm a wuss.

Yeah, and that's my day. One day of teaching, so many more to go.

Oh yeah, I forgot to explain the title of my post. After we got back from breakfast, the day turned darker and was windy and rainy and while it was happening, I was sad that it was only Monday, and not Wednesday so I could title my post "Windsday" like in the Whinney the Pooh story. Yeah, so it was a pretty cool storm. The funny thing is is that this morning was bright and sunny. But that's how it seems to go here- the morning is always sunny, and then by time I get out of the shower after my run and after breakfast, the day has changed into what it's really going to be that day.
