It Comes and Goes

Okay, so today was a day that I did get along with Natalie. I don't really know what it is, but it comes and goes in waves. I either get along with her fairly well or she bugs the gajeebers out of me. I guess the phrase "choose your battles" fits in my situation. Some days I'm able to try harder then others. Unfortunately yesterday was a day I chose to battle.

But let's start at the beginning, seeing as that's a very good place to start :o) My run went well today. It's Tuesday, so it's my fast day. With my running watch broken I had to take my regular watch with the dial face (is that what you call it?) It's one of those watches where if it's not right on the 5 or 10, you kind of just guess what time it is. So it's not ideal for helping you keep track of 5 and 2 minutes. But, it worked out and I was able to make it out just as fast as last time (which makes me think that my time telling skills are adequate) but I guess I was a little tired on the way back because I came back a few minutes slower. But, it'll happen.

Today was the day that I passed out the Mardi Gras beads and candy that Aunt Leslie sent me. It went fantastic. Thank you Aunt Leslie, all the kids LOVED the beads and they all say thank you. They wore them all day (which got kind of distracting in my other lessons) and they kept thanking me all day (it surprised them that I was giving them to them to keep and not just to wear). So in the morning I taught about parties and that's how I introduced Mardi Gras. I passed out the necklaces in the morning class, but totally forgot that I had the candy. It was okay though because I just used it as my bribe in the second class.

In the second class I taught about overlaid rhythms and how you can combine rhythms to make music, you don't only have to do one at a time. I found this fun website to go to where different cartoon animals make different rhythms and then you can click multiple animals and combine their sounds. Toward the end of the first rotation of that lesson, the animals started acting up and some of them wouldn't play. So when it didn't work for me when the second shift arrived, I started to panic. My whole 45 minute lesson revolved around the website. I had to disconnect and reconnect and it was taking a while, but it did end up working. Whew... that was a close one. And don't worry, I had some nice fillers in there so that the kids didn't have to sit in total silence while my computer struggled to connect to the internet.

During lunch I was hesitant to take Natalie out to look at another near by temple, but luckily she was the one to back out. She asked if we had any plans at lunch and I told her if she's ready for her lesson then we could go. She said that she was tired and would rather sleep. Okay! I decided that I could handle a good nap too and so I set my alarm to go off in 30 minutes. When that one went off, I set it to go off 30 minutes later. That one went off and I just laid in bed. There was no rush to get up, I already had my lesson done. Naps are a love/hate thing with me. When I take them, I love the extra sleep I get, but I really hate getting up from a nap, they never seem long enough.

I taught about flying squirrels today (did I tell you our theme this week is nocturnal animals?). As the closer to the lesson I had the kids hold onto a towel (the extra skin flap of a flying squirrel) and jump off of a mini trampoline into my arms and then I swung them around like they were flying. I'm positive they enjoyed that one :o)

Normally it cost 200 NT$ to go to the movies, but in the month of June, it only cost 100 NT$. Well, apparently it wasn't just for the month of June, because it's still going on. Today in class Teacher Michelle told me to go see a movie because it's only 100 NT$. I figured that I didn't have much better to do and so I decided to go to dinner at the really good noodle place and then to see a movie. This is where I chose not to battle. I invited Natalie to come along too. I would have invited Luke and Kaylene, but they'd already seen Hancock which is the movie I wanted to go to. Natalie told me she had tutoring and couldn't come. Okay! I felt good about that, I had invited her and through no fault of anybodies she was unable to make it... Until she actually checked her schedule and realized that she didn't have tutoring. Okay again. I could handle it, I had planned on her coming initially, so this was fine. And it really was. We went and bought our tickets and then went to dinner. We had more then civil conversation and then went to the movie. It was a pretty good movie. It's not at all what I was expecting, but that's a good thing because I do not like it when movies are predictable. (The people I'm with don't like it when movies are predictable either because I tell them the story before it happens and they're not very happy with me for ruining it.)

So after the movie I came home and decided to upload some pictures from Saturday, yesterday, and a few flower pictures from today. My camera is fun. I can put stamps and frames and paint no my pictures and I can do some cool effects like focused monochrome or fish eye effect. I played around with that for a while and then I decided that it was time to blog. And now it's time to load the pictures here and then go to bed.
